CCTV Go-Ahead for Chester Rows

Proposals to install 10 new CCTV cameras on Chester's historic Rows have been approved.

10 new CCTV cameras will be installed on Chester's historic Rows in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour. The cameras will provide added coverage to the rows on Northgate Street, Bridge Street, Eastgate Street and Watergate Street. 

 

The project, which was put forward and led by Cheshire West and Chester Council, is supported by Cheshire West and Chester Community Safety Partnership, Aberdeen Standard Investment, the council's housing team and CH1Chester BID. It is a part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on troublemakers. 

 

Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane said: "The camera locations and equipment have been carefully selected so as to minimise the visual impact on listed buildings.

 

"The proposed installation has arisen in response to requests from a variety of sources for additional CCTV cameras to be introduced to help address anti-social behaviour.

 

"The cameras will be used to deter and detect crime and disorder/anti-social behaviour, to enhance community safety and to help reduce the fear of crime. They will also help protect historically significant timber buildings from fire risk and damage.

 

"The cameras will provide coverage of areas where individuals and groups choose to congregate and engage in anti-social behaviour."
