CCTV Data Storage
How to achieve 90+ days of CCTV recording storage.
19:50 20 July 2017
For many private and government organisations, the recording and archiving of CCTV video images for 90 days or more is becoming more and more important. However, this requires a significant storage requirement, as the amount of data coming from CCTVs is huge and continuous. The workload is constant and the rate of writing data to the disk is constantly high.
Factors to consider when looking for a smart storage solution for CCTV data include video resolution, frame-rate, number of cameras used, and the quality of the compression technology deployed. In order to satisfy different types of applications, a vendor must be able to provide a flexible and scalable recording solution that can use both NVR units and PC server configurations as appropriate.
Aside from storage, data security must also be prioritised. This is where a Redundant Array of Independent Drives (RAID) will come in handy. RAID is an umbrella term used for computer data storage schemes that replicate data among multiple hard drives. It guarantees against losing data if any disk fails. It also allows the computer to continue without interruption.
