With the growing interest researchers put into the study of CBD and its health benefits, demands for CBD products including CBD oil has also increased (read more). While it is no secret that CBD products are gaining popularity from the public, there are still a lot of questions that are yet to be answered and doubts to be clarified about it.
What Is CBD?
Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is one of the many compounds found in a cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in marijuana plants, CBD does not have psychoactive properties and it doesn't cause a "high". Although CBD has a low affinity towards cannabinoid receptors, it influences other receptors namely opioid and serotonin receptors.
With the increasing popularity of CBD comes the rise of the CBD industry. Because of the benefits it can create to one's well-being, a lot of products such as CBD oil from cheefbotanicals, are made available on the market. CBD oil is made by infusing CBD extracts from the cannabis plant with carrier oils such as hemp seed oil or coconut oil.
Many people resort to using CBD oil because it promises a wide variety of health benefits to its users, without them having to deal with the intoxicating effects THC usually produces.
Often it can be taken using calming gummies.
Health Benefits
CBD would not be able to gain its popularity if not for its many proven health benefits. Many researchers have done their fair share of studies to back up the health benefits CBD offers to the public.
These wide varieties of health benefits include pain relief, reduced anxiety and depression, reduced acne, alleviation of cancer-related symptoms, improved heart health, easing symptoms of neurological disorders such as epilepsy and Parkinson's disease, and reduced progression of Alzheimer's disease.
While there are many research studies to prove these health claims, CBD has been continuously studied by professionals for the role it plays in helping mental disorders, substance abuse, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Possible Side Effects
Based on clinical research, the use of CBD oil may trigger risks and adverse side effects. The severity of these may vary from one person to another. Common side effects include anxiety, changes in mood and appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. It may also include liver damage, interactions with other drugs and alcohol, and a reduction in fertility for males.
Is CBD Legal?
Although the CBD industry may have shown positive growth considering how CBD comes in many product forms, the legality in which it is purchased and consumed remains to be every consumer's concern. Aside from its safety and effectiveness, people are usually concerned about whether CBD consumption is legal.
So far, the only FDA-approved drug which contains a purified form of CBD is Epidiolex. This drug is prescribed by doctors to persons who have epilepsy aged 3 years and above. Since seizures due to rare types of epilepsy such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome are difficult to control using other medications, Epidiolex proved to help prevent it.
In the United States, the legal status of CBD derived from marijuana and hemp plants has varying levels of restriction. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and hemp-derived products are considered legal as long as it does not exceed the 0.3 percent THC limit. This applies to both state and federal laws. However, since a different level of regulation applies to marijuana, marijuana-derived CBD oil remains federally illicit.
Although marijuana remained federally illegal, US states have the right to create their own laws regulating marijuana usage. The Bottomline
In conclusion, CBD or CBD oil offers many health benefits to its users such as reduced pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. With many research studies about CBD and its potential benefits still ongoing, there is no doubt that new therapeutic uses for CBD will be substantially supported and scientifically proven soon.
While CBD may have shown promising health benefits, it is also important to make sure that CBD intake conforms with laws and regulations to avoid adverse side effects or better yet consult a doctor first before consuming any CBD products.
