Caversham 5G Mast Plans
CK Hutchison Networks (UK) submits proposals to install a new 15m 5G mast on Reading Street.

CK Hutchison Networks (UK) has formally submitted proposals to install a 15m 5G mast on Caversham Heights to Reading Borough Council. The firm, which hopes to improve the connection speeds in the area, said that the location was chosen after "other sites have been investigated and discounted". According to the planning application, the work would include a "15m street pole, 3 additional ancillary equipment cabinets, and associated ancillary works".
The application states that the new installation will be "facilitating educational benefits, providing access to vital services, improving communications with the associated commercial benefits for local businesses, enabling ecommerce and facilitating the increased need and demand for working from home, as well as enjoying access to social, media and gaming for leisure time activities."
Residents have raised their concerns about the proposals. Some say that the company could have had 'carefully considered' the site due to "residential properties through the siting of telecommunications infrastructure within urban settings."
A pre-consultation document about the proposals read: "It is our opinion that the proposed design presents a better ‘fit’ within the local community and immediate street scape, offering a reduced visual impact upon an area of adopted highway identified, as situated out with a conservation area or other such restrictive designation."
