There are three candidates still in the race for the presidential seat in the United States, and one of the hottest topics of the election season has been healthcare. Can Americans expect to see improvements in healthcare, right down to the outsourced healthcare call center they use to receive help, after the elections are over? Will things stay the same, or will they get worse? That all ultimately depends upon the candidate that ends up winning the election. But to get a clearer idea of what each candidate proposes, continue reading to learn more.
Bernie Sanders
If he’s elected president, Bernie Sanders would bring about major change to the current healthcare system. He wants to join other major nations around the world that guarantee healthcare for every man, woman, and child, regardless of income level.
This universal healthcare plan is very popular and works very well in other countries, as it doesn’t rely upon having to pay high monthly premiums to health insurance providers, on top of deductibles, copays, and other out-of-pocket costs. Instead, everyone would pay a little bit more in taxes and save a lot of money annually while always having access to the healthcare they need.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton is running against Bernie Sanders as the other Democratic candidate in the race and, even though she used to support a single payer healthcare system, she no longer does, and it’s unclear why. Many speculate it’s her attempt at differentiating herself from Sanders, whose plan is extremely popular among Americans, on top of the fact that she has gotten more donations from the pharmaceutical industry than any other candidate that’s currently running for president.
Her plan is to simply work with the Affordable Care Act and to further expand it so that more people can be covered. However, experts claim that the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act will only continue to climb as the years pass. Current healthcare providers already charge high rates, and healthcare call centers are always busy taking calls and answering questions about what is covered under specific plans and what’s not. It is not clear how Clinton plans on lowering these costs and improving the current system after she’s elected.
Donald Trump
The only candidate left in the race from the Republican Party is Donald Trump. He promises to repeal the Affordable Care Act from the first day that he is in office as president. Then he plans to work with the members of Congress in order to implement a series of reforms that will follow the principles of a free market, restoring economic certainty and freedom to all citizens.
Trump claims that he’ll be able to make healthcare more affordable, and that he’ll broaden access to healthcare and improve the quality of care that people receive. He’ll do this by implementing many changes, such as allowing healthcare to be sold across state lines.
Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders promise big changes to the American healthcare system, while Clinton supports keeping things the way they are with the ACA. If America follows the example of other major nations, it seems that Sanders’ plan would bring about improvements.
