Can Apple Watch 5 make your iPhone redundant?
17:27 14 October 2019
Apple Watch 5 has been designed not just to monitor your health and tell you the time but also has the capability to call, text and stream music on its own – thanks to its cellular connectivity. This begs the question – do advancing smartwatches will eventually make our smartphones redundant?
Donald Zhang, the VP of International Sales Marketing at smartwatch company Modvoi, said: “Users want to be connected wherever they go and smartwatches make this possible,”
“Before you would have to have your mobile phone with you wherever you go, and now that’s not a requirement anymore.”
The Apple Watch 5 has an always-on retina display and a heart monitor, and a lot more. As it gains more and more features, it is not hard to imagine a future in which we’re turning to it to fulfil all the functions of our smartphones.
Experts agree that although plenty of smartphone features are now being added to smartwatches and even luxury watches, there is still a long way to go before the device can totally replace your iPhone.
One of the biggest challenges is battery life. Although the Apple Wach Series 5 is one of the most advanced smartwatches available on the market today, it will require a serious battery boost if we’ll use it for everything we do on our smartphone, including gaming, streaming and listening to music.
