Bus Capacity Tracking App
First Manchester announces app update to live-track bus capacity.
08:27 10 June 2020
First Manchester has updated its mobile app so its passengers can live track the location of their next bus and determine its available capacity ahead of time. The app update is aimed at helping passengers ensure that they adhere to social distancing protocols currently in place due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Ian Humphreys, Managing Director of First Manchester, said: "This is another way we're using technology to ensure safe, informed travel during these difficult times. Our buses provide an essential service for our customers and we are doing all we can to support them."
The company has recently confirmed that the number of passengers has dramatically decreased due to the lockdown. It said that from 12,000 customers per month, the numbers went down to just 1,400 in May, which illustrates how fewer people are currently using buses and heeding the guidance to avoid public transport.
First Manchester's app update coincides with the firm's increasing services, following confirmation last week of further support from the Government to bus operators. With social distancing guidance being observed at the same time as lockdown restrictions are being relaxed, this additional capacity will allow customers to travel in comfort and safety.
Mr Humphreys added: "To further support social distancing, and in addition to passenger counting, seats on the bus are now clearly marked indicating where customers should sit."
