Gone are the days when men only watch sports and news on TV. Today, more and more males are choosing to watch ‘less macho’ shows like ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
Last Tuesday, when England’s football game was showed simultaneously with Bake Off, a lot of British men were torn as to what to watch. Some even took to Twitter to talk about their dilemma.
Matthew Angell said: ‘Hmm. England football or Great British Bake Off? Only one winner there: [the show with] “good bake”, “soggy bottom”.’
The ratings of Bake Off last Tuesday peaked at 4.6 million, with 100,000 less viewers compared to previous weeks. On a recent episode, the remaining contestants were tasked to bake a range of different pies as well as their own version of the well-loved classic, Beef Wellington.
On the other hand, there were about 5.4 million Brits who watched the football game. The cooking show, hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, has become the newest must-watch cooking show rivaling BBC1’s Masterchef.
The show is also said to be the reason why more and more British men are trying their hands on baking these days.
