Britain's best: The UK's top 10 staycation destinations

According to a survey, almost 75% of Brits will explore attractions closer to home this year.

According to new figures revealed by Travelodge, almost 75per cent of holidaymakers will choose to stay at home for their summer break this year.

 

The poll, which was participated in by 3,000 holidaymakers, proved that coastal breaks in locations such as Blackpool, Cornwall, and Brighton are becoming more and more popular. It also revealed that plenty more people are also going to take breaks in the busier locales of London, Edinburgh, and York.

Holidaymakers who are opting to stay in the country for summer break help in boosting domestic tourism. Also, staycations are much cheaper when compared to an overseas trip, making the prospect win-win for travellers and local businesses alike.

 

Based on figures, Brit families will only spend an average of £430.33 should they choose to stay in Britain but will have to shell out an average of £1,113.91 for an overseas trip. 

 

Peter Gowers, chief executive of Travelodge, said: "More of us than ever before are being inspired to get up and go and explore what Britain has to offer.

 

"We’re seeing particularly strong demand from families and couples having multiple short breaks rather than the traditional fortnight.

 

"It all points to the fact that the nation's desire for a great holiday is still with us, but more than ever, we're all looking for great value and finding it here in the UK."
