British mum and racing driver Emma Wilkinson has died in Peking-Paris Vintage rally when her 1970 Chevrolet C10 collided with a Volkswagen Polo, as confirmed by the police.
Another 31-year-old man and a baby who were in the other vehicle were also tragically killed. Peter Davies, Emma’s partner was uninjured. However, another woman is in intensive care.
Based on an initial investigation, the accident happened when the traffic was very light. Police did not find skid marks. Reportedly, according to them this suggests that the driver of Polo may have fallen asleep.
Rally director Philip Young showed sympathy and said: "Emma was a fun loving, lively and popular member of the rally.
"In the three weeks we've been together both she and Peter proved themselves to be capable, competent and resourceful.
"Their 1970 Chevrolet C10 pickup was a remarkable sight in the Mongolian wilderness and today our thoughts and sympathies are with Emma's family and friends including her two brothers Robert and Mark who are also participating."
On May 28th, the 33-day race began where competitors had to travel through inaccessible areas as they drive through the Gobi Desert, Mongolia and Russia.
