Bridgend Council Mobile Camera Car
Bridgend Council to start using camera car to boost road safety.
20:10 04 May 2018
A mobile camera car is scheduled to start patrols in Bridgend county to clamp down on unsafe or illegal parking by schools and in other areas.
Charles Smith, the council’s cabinet member, said that the “clearly marked and easily recognisable” car is not meant to generate income but to address dangerous parking.
He said: "In addition to CCTV cameras, the car also features automatic number plate recognition technology.
"It will focus on keep clear zones outside schools, bus stops, 24-hr clearways, pedestrian crossings with zigzags and more."
He added: "I want to emphasise this new service has nothing to do with generating income, it is focused entirely on increasing road safety outside local schools and helping to keep children safe.
"Dangerous parking outside schools is a problem right across the county borough.
"I hope the new camera car will prove to be a major deterrent and will be a big boost to road safety."
