Three's application to build a 20-metre high 5G mast on the Flower Estate roundabout in Carnation Road has been rejected by Bolton Council.
Harper Green ward councillor Sue Haworth, who welcomed the decision, said: "Residents objected to this application as the roundabout is a central feature of the Flower Estate.
"It was designed this way many years ago in a hub way so that many houses could be built in rows with the large green space in the middle.
"Residents want more flowers, roses and small shrubs to look attractive on the roundabout and are very concerned that the proposed mast would attract vandalism and anti-social activity."
Members of the public have submitted letters of objection to Bolton Council with one resident saying the "ugly, oversized mast will create an eyesore, dominate the skyline and street scene." Another resident reminded the local authority that the green space "represents the only form of open space within the estate and should be protected, not built on."
