Body Cams for Cowes Floating Bridge Staff
Floating Bridge staff to use body-worn cameras following incidents of abuse.
08:08 04 August 2021
Effectively immediately, Floating Bridge staff will start wearing body cameras to encourage members of the public to treat them with the utmost respect. The scheme aims to protect staff on the troubled Cowes to East Cowes crossing, including other council members and the civil enforcement team, following incidents of abuse.
Commenting on the council move, a spokesperson said it was felt that "owning to the standard of behaviour of some members of the public, it might deter them from verbal abuse and act as a reminder to treat our staff with respect."
Meanwhile, staff currently working on the Floating Bridge 6 are being pulled out of service due to their chequered service history.
The body-worn cameras are owned by the council's commercial services department and no specific amount of money was required to provide them for the Floating Bridge team.
