Miss the pew-pew sounds of laser guns or the ever-present droning hum caused by a really poor-quality pc sound card? Then look no further, because an Android phone near you just may have the exact variety of ‘old’ required to satisfy your particular craving.
There’s obviously nothing wrong with enjoying modern mobile games, but when those old-school games you grew up with start calling the primal name of your people, its perhaps time alright to return to one or more of the old classics.
Double Dragon Trilogy
Most gamers are familiar with Double Dragon. This was after all for a very long time considered the king of the arcade. What Double Dragon Trilogy did was to combine all three the arcade titles into one super Double Dragon franchise title. A particularly nice touch is that all three games have been kept perfectly true to their original formats – that’s graphics as well as original gameplay. Best of all is that Double Dragon Trilogy supports a large selection of controllers. And locking in a controller is very much advised as the game doesn’t seem all too comfortable with touchscreen technology.
Raystorm
Raystorm is possibly the best shoot ’em up title of the PS1 era. Controller support is a done deal here too but with that having been said, Raystorm doesn’t seem to have any issues with touchscreen technology. And since Raystorm was the second title in the Ray trilogy of games, you may be interested in Rayforce and Raycrisis too. Thanks to Taito’s foresight, all three are available from the Play Store.
Simon The Sorcerer
Released an unbelievable 27 years ago, Simon the Sorcerer first saw the light back in 1993. The game makes provision for either playing with the original sometimes-loopy graphics intact, or taking advantage of playing in HD. As far as point and click adventure-style classics go, Simon the Sorcerer remains high up on our list of retro mobile gaming must-haves.
Metal Slug X
Many will recall that Metal Slug X was a remake of Metal Slug 2, and that at the time of its release, the updated version sought to improve a couple of kinks that caused the original to lag. But more importantly, Metal Slug X was (and still is!) pixelized graphics at its very best. Released just shy of 19 years ago, Metal Slug X is as entertaining today as playing at a cassino online Brasil site.
Ms. PAC-MAN
The amicable Ms. PAC-MAN by Bandai Namco represented to gamers far and wide just a little bit of lib. Not one to reveal her marital status, Ms. PAC-MAN knew what she stood for. Also, the two exit tunnels instead of the original PAC-MAN’s single escape makes the game all that more fun to play. The two-tunnel-deal can be found in the majority of the game’s mazes. And the little bow on Ms. P-M’s head, though a seemingly pointless detail to be focusing on, does add a certain charm.
