Benefits to Fighting Stress With Supplements
The modern world is a unique and stressful place.

Never before have we, as humans, had so much access to information and resources. We have ancient Eastern wisdom and Western research available to us on tap, we have gyms and yoga, organic foods, and just about every pills and remedies, including the best stress relief supplements ever created, available right at our fingertips. Yet, some use these facts against the use of a scientific approach. We have all these things, they say, and yet many report being less happy than ever. This sort of scant anecdotal evidence is the epitome of disinformation. The fact is that the modern human is living better now than ever before. Humans have longer lives (bother in terms of lifespan and healthspan), less disease, less war, less violence, and more opportunities for individual happiness and fulfillment than ever before.
The Difficulty
In spite of this optimistic outlook, all of these so-called “opportunities do not come free of cost. With access and convenience and variety and quality comes complications. You can’t eat an orange from Florida, wine from France, a tomato from Italy, and a pear from China all while shopping in New York with acknowledging the fact that the modern world is a complex place. With great opportunities come great complications.
What every person, every human individual living in the modern world should consider doing, then is fighting fire with fire. What this means is that when the world gives us complications we fight them compliment those complications by using science to optimize our biology to better handle them.
This is where adaptogens come into play. Adaptogen is a newly popular term for a very ancient group of medicinal herbs and plants. This includes growingly popular flora like Ashwagandha and Lemon Balm. While ancient cultures have used these and many of adaptogens to great effect for literally centuries, it is only with modern science that companies have been able to package, test, and combine ancient wisdom with modern technique. The results have been extroidniary.
Beneficial Adaptogens
The benefit of systematic study and research of adaptogens is not just that doing so lets consumers more accurately determine what works, it also helps them to know what DOESN’T work.
This distinction is important to note because many, perhaps too many Western consumers are quick to jump on the “Eastern” or “wholistic” bandwagon. Yes, it is true that the East (in terms of medicine, culture, attitude, food, and the like) has a lot to give the West. But the West (also in terms of medicine, culture, attitude, food, and the like) also has a lot to give the East. Supplements that fight stress, or remedies of any kind designed to fight stress should always lean toward natural remedies like those based on adaptogens and other low-risk plants and herbs rather than manufactured chemicals. The only flip side to this being in cases where Western medicines reap significantly better results. Certainly, at least sometimes, this can be the case, just as sometimes a purely “natural” approach is best. Either way, most reasonable parties can agree that the best possible stress supplements on the market today feature ingredients that were discovered by ancient wisdom and tested by modern resources.
