Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Yauch, otherwise known as MCA, announced that he has cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph node via video message featuring himself and bandmate Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horowitz.
He said on the clip the condition is "treatable" and is confident that he will make a full recovery.
He added: "I'm going to have to have surgery, probably next week, and then after that have some radiation done in that localised area.
"It's not in a place that affects my voice, so that's nice. That's convenient."
Yauch went on to say that the band's forthcoming album, 'Hot Sauce Committee', scheduled for release on September 15 in America, would be delayed.
The band have also been forced to postpone their live concert dates.
The Beastie Boys found fame in the mid-80s with their debut album 'Licensed to Ill' featuring the hit single 'Fight for Your Right'.
They went on to have more success with their 1993 album 'Ill Communication'.
