The BBC has confirmed the re-launching of one of the best-loved game shows in British TV history, The Generation Game.
The corporation also stated that Miranda star Miranda Hart will be the presenter tasked with guiding the show through the brutal battle for Saturday night ratings. However, Ms Hart said that her involvement is far from definite, despite the official announcement.
On Monday, she took to Twitter writing: “it’s nice to see you’r [sic] thoughts re Gen Game but to reiterate let’s ‘shut that door’ on it for now. It’s one of a few private brainstorms.”
She added: “Apparently it’s 100 per cent I am doing Gen Game. First I’ve heard of it. Mulling some ideas about it might be more accurate.”
In 1970s, the show pulled in an astonishing 20 million viewers every Saturday evening, first with Bruce Forsyth at the helm whose catchphrases including "didn't they do well?", "a cuddly toy!" and "nice to see you, to see you nice" became a part of TV history.
The BBC1 controller, Charlotte Moore, told The Guardian: 'It will be a modern reinvention of the Generation Game.
'Miranda will bring a very different flavour to it. Her wit and spirit behind it will naturally move it into the modern era. Miranda is brilliant at engaging with people, she loves that interaction. She'll be brilliant.'
Moore continued to MailOnline: 'We are working closely with Miranda on how a modern day Gen Game would work, whilst she continues to be committed to her work as an exceptional actress. It's an exciting process.'
