Many people are sleep deprived due to the mental distraction brought about by modern lifestyle that is seem to be filled with artificial lighting, computers and smartphones. But sleep-related problems can be solved by simply going back to nature. Scientists found that going on a camping trip and spending a couple of nights under canvass can reset our internal body clocks thanks to fresh country air and the natural cycle of light and dark.
Researchers at the University of Colorado said that spending just a weekend of living and sleeping under the stars can shift the body’s internal body clock by more than 2.5 hours. The findings can lead to the development of new treatments for people with sleeping problems and those suffering from jet lag.
Dr Kenneth Wright, a sleep expert at the University of Colorado Boulder, said: 'We think the body clock shifts quickly because sunlight and removal of electrical light at night sends a strong signal to the body.
'There are some people who have difficulties falling asleep because their body clock timing is very late and our findings may help to initiate treatments for that group.'
