A proposal to build a 5G mast near Irvine’s Castlepark Primary School has been denied by planners. Three, one of the UK’s biggest mobile companies, formally filed an application for an 18-metre structure claiming they needed to upgrade capacity and coverage for 5G services in a “highly constrained cell search area”.
Explaining why they were rejecting the application, the council’s report stated: "The proposed mast would not benefit from any screening and would be highly visible in the surrounding area.
"The scale of the proposed mast would be excessive in terms of height with regards to its surroundings.
"The design of the mast and associated infrastructure would be utilitarian in appearance.
"While such infrastructure is common in residential areas, the excessive scale of the proposed mast would result in it having a significant, and potentially detrimental impact on the character and visual appearance of the surrounding area."
