Ayrshire 5G Mast Plan

Three unveils plans to build a 5G mast near an Ayrshire school and nursery.

Phone company Three has submitted an application to build an 18-metre tall 5G mast near Irvine's Castlepark Primary School and Early Years Centre. 

 

Documents submitted to North Ayrshire Council reveal that the phone mast would be taller than nearby trees at Castlepark Circle. Three said that the "equipment is considered unlikely to have any material impact on the local area" and that it would bring "significant connectivity improvements which is a material consideration in the judgment of the site's suitability". 

 

The statement continues: "There is now a requirement to upgrade the UK CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Ltd (Three) network to provide improved coverage and capacity, most notably in relation to 5G services.

 

"This proposal is for a 18.0m SW (Street Works) monopole located on the adopted highways at Castlepark Circle.

 

"To bring this new technology to the people CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Ltd will need to provide a mix of upgrades to existing sites and the building of new sites.

 

"New sites will be needed for many reasons, including that the higher radio frequencies used for 5G do not travel as far as those frequencies currently in use and that sometimes not all existing sites can be upgraded. In this area, there is an acute need for a new mast to deliver the above."
