Aylesbury Vale Broadband Update
Council sets out details for review of Aylesbury Vale Broadband ISP.
21:01 26 January 2018
The Aylesbury Vale District Council has announced the timetable for their review into the Aylesbury Vale Broadband Project, which FTTH network assets was sold to Gigaclear for an undisclosed amount.
The project is backed by the council and is funded by investment from publicly funded commercial loan from AVDC. The provider claimed that it was working to provide broadband connection to around 2,000 premises in several villages before it was sold.
However, the provider was constantly criticised by opposition councillors who have previously voiced their concern over the provider’s financial management, rollout progress, service uptake and public accountability.
On January 22, the council’s audit committee has met to effectively signal the start of a review that will conclude by the end of April 2018. The review will focus on AVDC’s governance arrangements over its investment in AVB.
The review will be carried out by the Council’s externalized internet audio team. However, the audit process can become challenging since the “information considered confidential and commercially sensitive to AVB (either by its Directors or its Board) is not disclosable.” The review will also not examine AVB’s day-to-day operations, decision making or internal processes.
