Ashford 5G Mast Proposal
A 15m tall mast could soon be built in Kingsnorth, Ashford.
11:54 14 September 2021
Three network has recently submitted proposals to build a 5G mast in Kingsnorth, Ashford. If approved, the 15m tall structure would be erected in a residential neighbourhood and would increase Three's coverage in the area.
According to the documents submitted to Ashford Borough Council, the mast will address "acute capacity issues" in the area from its base on the Britannia Lane roundabout. It added that the infrastructure will be designed in a way that it will blend with the street lighting on the road.
The document reads: "The proposed design has been selected to minimise visual impact on the street scene... having similar vertical lines and overall appearance to the numerous street lighting columns in this area,"
At 15m tall, the mast is set to tower over neighbouring trees as well as several houses in the street. The proposal cited a previous application that said there would be "clear economic and social benefits" to the work.
The council welcomes comments and suggestions before it will make a decision on September 30.
