AO Backs M.E.N's Digital Donation Day
14:22 02 March 2021
AO has donated 20 new laptops to primary school pupils as part of the Manchester Evening News’ Digital Donation Day. The donation drive aims to provide devices and connectivity to pupils to help them with online learning as well as promote the Greater Manchester Technology Fund.
John Roberts, AO’s founder and chief executive, said: “We are proud to be supporting local families with laptops for learning and what a fitting way to deliver them in one of our AO branded taxis, featuring our famous AO smile.
"Talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not and the Greater Manchester Tech Fund is helping to bridge that gap.”
The 20 laptops from AO were donated to Manor Academy in Sale.
Headteacher Paul Eckley said: “These donations will enable our pupils to not only access education at home, but also to maintain important links between school staff and peers. We’re extremely grateful and commend the work AO.com and the Greater Manchester Tech Fund are doing to narrow the gap of social inequality for our young people.”
Greater Manchester Technology Fund, which has raised £260,000 donations to date, was launched by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) following a survey showing 20,000 young people in the region do not have access to the devices and technology they need for online learning.
Diane Modahl MBE, lead for the Greater Manchester Tech Fund, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at AO and the other fantastic organisations that have come forward to support the Greater Manchester Tech Fund so far.
