Weeks after unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was shot by a police officer, another African-American male has been shot dead north of St Louis. According to reports, the 23-year-old man was 'carrying a knife' and was identified as 'a suspect'.
Police said that he was approached by officers following reports of a convenience store robbery and he acted erratically.
"As officers arrived, the suspect turned towards the officers and started to walk towards them, clutching his waistband," St Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told reporters.
"He then pulled out a knife in what we describe as an overhand grip, and told the officers: 'Shoot me now, kill me now'".
Chief Dotson added that the suspect ignored warnings and continued to approach the officers. Two policemen opened fired as the suspect came “within three to four feet.”
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the unidentified police officers have been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.
Residents flocked the scene, which is about four miles south east of Canfield Drive where Mr Brown was shot at least six times by Ferguson Police on August 09.
