US singer Mindy McCready has been found dead in her home in Arkansas, America. It is suspected that the country artist committed suicide, with police stating that Mindy died from an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound".
Mindy, who was 37-years-old, was known to have suffered from problems with substance abuse, and some believe that at times she had led a troubled life. Her death comes a number of weeks after the death of her partner David Wilson, who allegedly committed suicide.
The singer is thought to have shot herself on her porch, which, based on reports, is where Mr. Wilson is also believed to have died. It is understood that Mr. Wilson’s death is being investigated by police.
Following the news, messages have come in via the social network site Twitter. Carrie Underwood, also a country singer, said: “I grew up listening to Mindy McCready... so sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them.”
Mindy, who was born in Florida, rose to fame in the 1990s and was popularly known for hit songs such as ‘Ten Thousand Angels’ and ‘Guys Do It All The Time’. Her debut album in 1996 was also entitled Ten Thousand Angels.
The artist pleaded guilty to drug offenses in 2004.
Mindy was the mother to two sons, with Mr. Wilson being the father to one of her sons.
