Airport Fog

Heavy fog across England and elsewhere in Europe is causing delays and cancellations at airport for two consecutive days.

Heathrow and Gatwick airports are experiencing second day of delays and cancellations due to heavy fog across England and elsewhere in Europe. A Heathrow airport spokesman said that about 30 flights were canceled due to reduced runway capacity and that other flights were also likely to be delayed throughout the day. Meanwhile, 23 flights were cancelled at Gatwick airport on Sunday.

 

Further fog predicted for Monday and the planned strikes by cabin crew and baggage handlers could mean further disruption in days leading to Christmas and Boxing Day.

 

Greg Dewhurst, a Met Office meteorologist, said that the fog may cause some problems to commuters on Monday.

 

"The fog will be in and out - you could be fine driving along and the next minute come across this thick fog," he said.

 

"It is worth drivers being aware first thing in the morning, some dense patches are definitely possible".

 

The fog is expected to be thickest to the west of London – potentially making driving hazardous in places.

 

Meanwhile, BA cabin crew based at Heathrow confirmed a planned strike on Christmas and Boxing Day in a row over pay and conditions. There is another 48-hour strike at UK airports called by the Unite union also over pay and conditions.
