11:59 12 April 2017
Free Wi-Fi connection has been rolled out across Aberdeen city centre and is now available in 17 libraries, nine community and learning centres, Seventeen, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Marischal College and Adventure Aberdeen. It is also accessible at Union, Broad, Belmont, and Market Streets as well as Union Terrace, Back Wynd and Schoolhill.
Council leader Jenny Laing said: “This is about allowing people in Aberdeen to roam freely in the city and do business from their laptops and mobile devices.
“We recognise that people have to be connected at all times which is why we have made the introduction of free high-speed, wi-fi a priority.”
“This brings us into line with some of the world’s most progressive cities and is just another step in fulfilling our ambition to make Aberdeen a 21st century city. This will also future-proof the city for the next 30 years and there will be more to come as we keep pace with changing technology.
“This is a process which will keep Aberdeen at the cutting edge and one of Scotland’s smartest cities.”
Leonora Montgomerie, secretary of the city centre community council, added: “The community council welcomes the introduction of the broadband and bringing Aberdeen into the digital age.
“We look forward to seeing more streets switched on in the future.”
