It has been confirmed that NSH England will invest £90million to fund research with the aim to speed up the process of detecting dementia.
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that a new package of care for sufferers will make the UK a ‘world leader’ in fighting the illness.
Several leading businesses have expressed their support including Argos, Marks & Spencer, Homebase, and Lloyds Pharmacy. About 190,000 staff members of these businesses will be trained to easily spot signs of dementia and offer support to suffering shoppers.
Hunt said: “Dementia can be a horrific and heartbreaking disease, but it is my mission as Health Secretary to make this country the best place in the world to get a dementia diagnosis, as well as a global leader in the fight to find a cure.
“Today's package is about government, clinicians, business, society and investors coming together to raise our game on every front - from speedy diagnosis to compassionate care, and from help on our high streets to the quest for a cure.”
However, not everybody seems to be impressed with the proposal. Labour warned that the government must first tackle poor care standards in order to fight the condition.
