14:55 11 June 2021
Do I need to continue studying at a higher education institution? Will I be able to work in this field after five years of study? Do I need the skills and abilities that I am taught at the university? The answer to the last question is YES. No matter what field of study, higher education can provide some useful skills that are sure to be useful in later life.
No matter how attractive self-education, the classical high school has certain advantages, although not without its shortcomings in the form of little relevant programs, incompetent teachers, outdated technical facilities.
But the positive aspects of a university education are much more.
Today we will look at the most useful skills that higher education provides.
THE SKILL OF SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION
Most university programs are not designed to provide full information in lectures and seminars. Here the student receives methodological guidelines and general principles of the subject, while detailed information often has to search on its own in specified sources. It is impossible to know and remember everything, but it is important to always be able to find what you need. It is this phenomenon of higher education someone may consider a disadvantage, but in fact - it is an advantage. In today's world filled with information noise, such a skill is indispensable.
SELF-LEARNING SKILL
But it is not enough just to be able to find information; you have to learn how to work with it. Often it takes a lot of energy and additional skills to put the information you receive into the right form. The system of higher education will certainly stimulate the development of this skill, which is also useful in any field of activity.
SELF-CONTROL
According to stereotypes, students are the most careless members of society. But in fact, they constantly need to calculate time and pass exams in time, process tons of information for writing and defending a diploma, plan and distribute their schedule by themselves, which, of course, includes time for outings. In case there is no time and the student uses the paper help, he also controls his budget, this is also a useful skill for a person.
THE SKILL OF TEAMWORK
In high school, many tasks have to be solved in a team, and there is no other way. When preparing for an exam, huge amounts of information have to be distributed among classmates, where everyone will be responsible for his or her topic. Moreover, at the laboratory work, all activities are often distributed among groups of students.
THE ABILITY TO ESTABLISH CONTACT WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE
It is impossible to study at university without social interaction. It is in normal life we can get away from unwanted communication. But at university, you will often have to make contact and find common ground with different types of people, from teammates to the most demanding professors. Close interaction among classmates is often the prerequisite for lifelong friendships.
ABILITY TO LISTEN TO THE MANAGER
Not everyone will be able to work effectively, clearly adopting the experience and instructions of the manager. This is especially important at the beginning of a career. Each student will have a supervisor with whom he or she will have to work a lot. The ability to learn from others' experiences will allow you to avoid your mistakes and get results more quickly. But not everyone has this skill. You cannot achieve this effect without live communication, relying on online tutorials and instructions on the Internet.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Fear of public speaking is inherent in many people. Especially if you want to graduate well, the university can be a great place to practice these skills. It is always possible to hide behind someone's back, but here constant seminars and conferences will push public speaking. Only constant self-expression, gaining credibility, and the development of eloquence will help you to complete your studies. The ability to speak beautifully and deliver your message to the public is a very important skill for life in society.
WORK DESPITE INTEREST
In professional life, you often have to solve routine and boring tasks, and this is quite normal. Especially at university, during 5-6 years of study, a student gets used to constant work on many projects that are not interesting to him, but they need to be done for a good grade. In this way, one develops the ability to be diligent and to be patient with routine work.
LEARN TO SET A GOAL
Only the laziest person today isn't talking about goal setting. But in fact - it is quite a difficult skill. And during the study at the university, it becomes simply vital. Before the student constantly has a choice - to take a walk and rest, or to break the project into parts and every day to get closer to its implementation. Almost always the student is assigned many tasks, and there is not enough time for everything physically. So it is necessary to learn to prioritize. Of course, this skill can be developed directly at work. But it is better to develop it during studying in order to work more effectively and earn more, to move up the career ladder faster. It is worth noting that especially the university rhythm allows you to learn to handle many different tasks at the same time.
