It means a new beginning with opportunities to set things up differently within a brand new space. And as exciting as it is, it’s hard to ignore the fact that it can be very stressful as well. So much can go wrong, you may forget to do something, or you may pack something incorrectly- there are a couple of issues that you can come across that you may have not even put into consideration. This is why we’ve brought together for you the 7 most common issues that occur when moving, and how to solve them.
1. An Unreliable Moving Company
If you don’t hire a reliable moving company, then everything that could possibly go wrong will definitely go wrong. It’s important to go with a moving company that is known around your area and has been used by a couple of people, and has a good reputation overall too. This is because if you decide to take the matter lightly, this means you are compromising on a lot. You need a company that you can trust with your belongings, are always on time, and are professionals in handling different kinds of weights, especially fragile items.
Of course, getting from one point to another is important, without having any damage done to your things, but moving your belongings out of your home and into the moving vehicle is just as vital. This is something that you want professionals to do because they will know how to place all the items and boxes as well as the furniture in a way where nothing gets damaged, putting into consideration that the vehicle will be moving a lot as well.
2. Missing Items
It’s sad but true, one of the most tragic issues many people have when moving is a lot of their precious belonging go missing during the move. Either you give it or throw it away by accident, or it gets lost while being transported to the new location. The best way to counter this issue is to make an inventory of every single item you pack, label the boxes, and by doing this you can guarantee that you have everything sorted out. By being more organized, it goes a long way in ensuring that nothing goes missing because you’ll know exactly where everything is.
3. Fragile Items
You’re bound to have a couple of fragile items that are at risk of being broken during the moving out and moving in process. Whether it’s from the way you pack or from being mishandled.
The best way to take care of this issue is to make sure that you invest time and proper materials to pack these fragile items carefully and well enough so that they are not at risk of being damaged. There is also the option of hiring professional packers that can do this job for you. Just be sure to be present while they do this so that you can ensure that they do the job correctly.
4. Insufficient Time For Packing
We’re all guilty of being messy and frazzled when it comes to getting organized at times. But when it comes to moving, it is really difficult to stay organized because there’s so much to be done and so much going on. Sometimes, it’s really hard because you have a short period of time to execute everything.
The best way to manage your time is to first and foremost, not stress. When you panic, everything becomes even messier than it should. You will be able to get everything packed and ready in time, but you just need to manage the time in a realistic way. The most efficient way to do this is to have a system. You have to plan first. Estimate how many boxes you might need and get a little more extra just in case. Make a checklist of all the items you plan to pack and put them into categories to make the packing more organized. Get all the packing materials you might need. Once you are prepped, don’t hesitate to ask friends and family to come and help so that everything can be done quickly.
5. Too Many Boxes
There is that dreadful moment when you’re finally done packing, but then you realize that you have way too many things. In regards to transportation, then this would mean that the movers would be required to take more than one trip back and forth. For the overall move though, this could be a disaster in terms of unpacking in your new place.
There are two solutions to this dilemma. You need to make sure that while you are packing, that you cut down as much as you can on things you no longer need. Give away things to charities and throw away items that are no longer of any use. This is a great time to clear out your clutter. Your next option is to have an external storage area to keep the extra boxes, if you feel you need to have the items. You can invest in warehouse storage as well.
6. What To Do With Pets
Many of us have pets, and while we might find it to be an exciting prospect, the poor things really have no idea what’s going on. And when they see the safe and secure surroundings that they depend on to be their home being tampered with, it stresses them out.
The best solution is that during the moving process, either have them stay at a pet hotel or let a friend that you know and trust take care of them. Once you’re moved and unpacked, bring them into the new home, so they’re introduced into a comfortable and not so chaotic surroundings.
7. The New Place
It’s a universal issue and ultimate fear that when you get to your new place, things are not in order. This is why it’s important that you don’t just have all your focus set on the packing and moving from your current spot. You need to also make sure that the place you are moving to is ready to move into, that the boxes and furniture can be transported into the place with ease and that there’s a working elevator, or even better, a service elevator.
Moving can be an exciting and nerve racking process, but it’s all worthwhile in the end because you’re starting something new in a new place, and this should always be a memorable experience, but not for the wrong reasons. This is why if you prepare yourself for any possible scenario, there’s really no reason why the move should not be a smooth one.
