5G Tower Planned in Barnsley

Applications for a 5G tower on a residential street in Barnsley submitted to local council.

A 19m high 5G tower could be built on a residential street in Barnsley if proposals are approved by the local council's application board. The exact targeted location for the 5G infrastructure is on the footway at Yews Avenue and Greenwood Avenue in Worsbrough next to the existing 10M HG3 mast that provides 4G coverage to the area. 

 

The planning document reads: "The Government is committed to supporting investment in high-quality, reliable digital connectivity so that communities can benefit from faster economic growth and greater social inclusion. 

 

"It is essential to keep pace with growing demand for internet bandwidth and mobile data from local businesses, residents and those who visit our communities. 

 

"As part of MBNL and H3G's continued network improvement program, there is a specific requirement or a complementary installation at this location to provide 5G services, ensuring that this area of Barnsley maintains access to the latest technologies. 

 

"There is an existing telecommunications street pole on the site. This existing street pole is shared by both EE and H3G and also provides vital 2G/3G/4G coverage and capacity to this part of Barnsley. 

 

"The proposed new mast has been sited and designed in order to provide 5G coverage for H3G and to support the existing mobile network. As the new pole will be complementary to the existing 2G/3G/4G mast it must be immediately adjacent to the existing pole in order to replicate the coverage."
