5G Safety Concerns 

Anti-5G campaigners appeal to local authorities to stop the deployment of the new generation mobile network.

Worried anti-5G campaigners have come together to ask Brighton and Hove City Council to follow the ‘precautionary principle’ when deciding whether or not they will allow 5G be deployed in the area. They have previously raised concerns over the possible effects of the technology to wildlife and health.

 

Mr Alistair Hill, Brighton and Hove’s director of public health, has responded saying that Public Health England has already previously said that exposure levels will comply with the guidelines published by the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection. He added that 5G is proven to have no adverse health effects as proven by peer-reviewed research.

 

He said: “We recognise there is ongoing research and keep ourselves up to date within public health in Brighton and Hove will remain so.”

 

“We absolutely recognise there is a concern among some of our residents about this.”

 

Meanwhile, Max Woodford, the council’s assistant director for development and regeneration, said that the council does not have the authority to stop 5G deployment even if they wanted to but they can object to specific sites based on design and location.
