5G Relies on Government Partnerships

Deployment of ultrafast broadband and 5G relies on partnerships between councils, the Government, and suppliers.

Full-fibre and 5G networks have been deployed in a number of areas in the United Kingdom. However, many towns and even cities, are still stuck with outdated copper broadband with many unable to get decent mobile signal much more connect to even 3G or 4G.

 

 

 

The Conservatives have promised to close the gap by bringing gigabit capable broadband to every UK home and business by 2025. Meanwhile, Labour said they fully commit to full-fibre broadband for all by 2030 through the nationalisation of BT’s broadband providing access.

 

 

 

The central government has announced £5billion to bring the service to all as soon as possible. Working together with Ofcom, they are encouraging providers, including BT and Virgin Media, to device ambitious plans to deliver ultrafast broadband using the most advanced technology available.

 

 

 

Local councils, on the other hand, are encouraged to ease the process by making council-owned properties available to suppliers. CityFibre, the UK’s largest alternative provider of wholesale fibre network, has gained support from many local councils enabling it to rollout its full-fibre network. It currently has major fibre infrastructure projects across more than 50 cities and towns throughout the UK.
