5G Mast Upgrade Application in Brixham

Application to upgrade a mobile phone mast at Brixham has been submitted on behalf of EE and Three.

A developer has submitted an application to upgrade a mobile phone mast in behalf of networks EE and Three. The goal is to bring 5G network in Brixham Rugby Club ground at Astley Park off Rea Barn Road. 

 

 

 

5G is the next generation mobile network that promises reliable connections and faster downloads. It is capable of downloading a full HD movie in just a couple of minutes. Because higher frequency signal does not travel as far, the technology requires more base stations and taller masts to avoid being blocked by trees and buildings. 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, campaigners opposing the roll out of 5G, have asked Torbay Council to pause the roll out of the technology until it has been fully tested and proven safe to both humans and animals. Public Health England has previously said that years of studies of radio waves showed that the technology is safe and that the risk of damage to health is highly unlikely.   

 

 

 

The report reads: “It is imperative that support is given to the introduction of new infrastructure to allow new technology which will allow networks to be able to handle more data and connect more devices simultaneously at much faster speeds.

 

 

 

“This will enable places to remain competitive and will support the Government’s ambition for the UK to become a world leader in telecommunications technologies and development.”

 

 

 

The report adds: “In selecting the site, the applicant has had regard to national and local planning policies, the site context, potential alternative solutions, visual impact, health and safety considerations as well as operational need.”
