5G Mast Planned for Top of Town Centre Hotel

Plans to build a hotel at Novotel Reading Centre has been submitted.

Cornerstone and Vodafone Ltd has submitted an application to build a 5G mast at Novotel Reading Centre on Friar Street. The documents reveal that the 5G mast would be 42.3m above ground level and will have three transmission dishes. 

 

Following the submission of the application, concerns over the lack of noise assessment were immediately raised by environmental health officers. Senior officer Rebecca Moon said: “It is not clear to me from the application whether new noisy mechanical plant is proposed (cooling fans etc.) as part of this application or whether the plant room is existing.

 

“A noise assessment has not been submitted with the application and therefore I cannot determine the likely noise impact of the proposal and whether the proposals are acceptable.

 

“I therefore recommend refusal unless a noise assessment can be submitted and considered by us before the application is determined.”
