5G evolution
AT&T launches its "5G" service in Indianapolis.
12:25 18 July 2017
AT&T has announced its "5G evolution" insisting that its "plans to pave the way to the next generation of faster speeds for its wireless customers with the latest devices in over 20 major metro areas by the end of this year."
However, the fifth generation wireless technology is not going to be deployed until 2020 or may be even later as its draft specs were only published in February.
AT&T service promises “carrier aggregation, 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAm and more”, which other carriers have been offering for quite sometime under its real name 4G LTE-A.
Despite what others would call false advertising, users in Indianapolis will still enjoy increased speeds as long as they have a phone that supports it like Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+.
AT&T also confirmed plans to bring 5G Evolution to 20 metro areas before the end of the year. These include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville and San Francisco.
