5G Company Loses Bid to Erect Mast in Perth

Perth and Kinross Council rejects CK Hutchison Networks’ application arguing the 5G pole “would tower above all surrounding features”.

CK Hutchison Networks’ application to build a 5G pole next to Dunkeld Road has been rejected by Perth and Kinross Council as it "would tower above all surrounding features". 

 

The local authority explained that the development would lead to "an unacceptable restriction to the free-flowing movement of pedestrians" as its width would have to be reduced to accommodate the installation. 

 

CK Hutchison Networks filed an appeal to the Scottish Government earlier this year arguing that the case officer who initially handled the application had failed to appreciate the full public benefit that the mast could offer. 

 

Tammy Swift-Adams, an independent reporter working for the government’s Planning and Environmental Appeals, said: “I find the proposed monopole would have a transformative and harmful impact on the character and visual amenity of the area, given the extreme prominence it would have both at close range and on approach from significant distances from the north and south.”

 

Ms Swift-Adams added: “The wraparound cabinet at the base of the monopole would, when its doors where open for maintenance, reduce the usable width of the pavement to less than one metre. This could be reduced even further if barriers and warning signs were erected.
