59ft Mast Heads to Blaby

Mobile network Three submits an application to build a 59ft 5G in Blaby.

Mobile network Three has applied to Blaby District Council to build a 59ft 5G mast on a tree-lined village street to address the 'acute capacity' issue on the local phone network in the area. 

 

The 5G mast, which is expected to be built outside a row of shops on Western Drive in a residential area of the village, will not have a negative impact on the area and will help improve mobile phone signals, according to the local council. 

 

The application states: “The site is required to provide new 5G coverage for H3G LTE in order to improve coverage in the area of Blaby. The cell search areas for 5G are extremely constrained with a typical cell radius of approximately 50m meaning that it would not be feasible to site the column outside of this locale.

 

“The proposal is required due to acute capacity issues and will facilitate significantly improved 5G in areas that have started to gain this service and newly introduce it to the areas that have not gained this level of connectivity yet.”

 

“This equipment is considered unlikely to have any material impact on the local area but significant connectivity improvements which is a material consideration in the judgment of the site’s suitability.”

 

The document also suggests that Three has considered other locations for the 5G mast, including Laurel Road and Sycamore Street, but found the proposed lot to be the only one suitable.
