£500 million Glasgow City Innovation

£500 million Glasgow City innovation district to create up to 1,000 businesses and 50,000 new jobs.

Glasgow city council, the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurial Scotland have teamed up to launch the £500million Glasgow City innovation district, which stretches from George Square to Glasgow Green.

 

The scheme is part of Glasgow’s economic strategy to improve productivity, create new jobs and attract inward investment in several cities around the globe. One of the first companies to sign up was M Squared Laser, a leading technology firm that is currently in the process of developing a new Quantum Centre within the district to enable 20 researchers to co-locate with the University of Strathclyde.   

 

Derek Mackay, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Economy and Fair Work, said: “I am delighted to launch the Glasgow City Innovation District today. This is an exciting, ambitious project, one that could have significant economic and social impact for Glasgow, the surrounding areas and Scotland.

 

“This innovation district has the potential to transform the opportunities for businesses in the area, whilst attracting new investment and boosting Glasgow’s established reputation as a city of innovation, in which the University of Strathclyde plays a key role.”
