Unless you are a wild man living in the woods on some remote part of the planet, the chances are that you have titanium foil around you every single day. This incredibly thin metal foil can be utilized in a number of different ways, making it a crucial industrial product. Don't let that give you the impression that it is boring, as this could not be further from the truth.
From aerospace engineering to personal items, titanium foil plays a massive part in our society today.
Below, we take a look at 5 awesome uses for this wonder foil.
5. Razors and Shavers
The next time you and your partner compare razors, take a look at the type of blades used. The chances are, if they are among the high-end razors on the markets, that they will both have one thing in common: they are a titanium foil product. These days titanium foil is used either completely or as a coating over the razor, making that shaving experience one which should be seamless and pain-free.
Given that the foil can be as thin as 0.0100 inches, it is perfect for home shaving appliances.
4. Camping Equipment
Campers and backpackers will have also likely used equipment with titanium foil in there somewhere. Common products featuring titanium foil are windscreens for keeping that flame on your portable cooking device nice and healthy and inside water carriers and thermal flasks. Given the wondrous properties of the foil, it is a popular choice among manufacturers and designers of such products.
Titanium foil is super light and is perfect for any equipment designed to be taken on the go.
3. Aerospace and Vehicles
These superlight and multi-use qualities also see the material used in many aerospace projects. As it is a perfect weight and can perform in ways which belie its size, it can be found in airplanes, for example. Where there is sensitive equipment which must be protected, you may also find titanium foil.
2. Camera Shutters
Titanium foil has also been used in the production of quality camera shutters, which makes it an important part of capturing that perfect image. As it can be so small as to be almost undetectable, its function does not interfere with the process of taking a picture or filming. The use of titanium foil in camera shutters - devices which essentially expose film or sensors to light - was reportedly initiated by camera manufacturing giant Nikon.
1. In Spacecraft
You can't get a much cooler use for titanium foil than inside a spacecraft. When designers and engineers are building crafts to be launched into space, there are a number of parts and functions which have to work perfectly. While it is better to skip the "sciencey parts," what we can say is that multilayers of titanium foil are used in the construction of spacecraft to make it function correctly.
The thermal protection blanket, for example, uses titanium foil along with other thermal separators to control the temperatures and withstand incredible heat. Without titanium foil, this process would not be possible as easy to do.
