Humans don't like boredom. We constantly crave action, progress, success, and more. So when things just suddenly stop happening and there's nothing left to do but stare at a wall, naturally, as 21st-century creatures, most of us reach for our mobile devices or computers. Indeed, with a connection to the internet and a decent device, you're equipped to defeat any boredom set before you. There are plenty of ways to entertain yourself online, but here are four that are particular good at passing time.
1. Fantasy Baseball
If you're a fan of baseball then you'll probably find that your favorite offline pastime is just as fun to play online. Baseball simulation games can get you through a long road trip, flight, or a rainy day better than just about anything if you enjoy the sport. If baseball isn't your thing, there are also fantasy league games for just about every other sport as well.
2. Social Games
Playing a game by yourself is alright, but playing with another player over the web is so much more engaging. Games like chess are great classics that can hold you over for hours on end. On the other hand, newer adventure and puzzle games that you can find on sites like Facebook are also fun alternatives. You can race against a friend, help a friend maintain their farm, or battle them in a first-person shooter. There's really no limit to the types of games you can play with friends online.
3. Video Sites
Video sites are almost too effective at relieving boredom - to the extent that it can even distract you when you're not even trying to entertain yourself. Sites like YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu contain all the shows and clips needed to keep you entertained through even the lengthiest stretches of boredom. In fact, you might even want to create a bookmarks folder in your browser specifically for video sites and links to TV series that interest you.
4. Online Magazines and Book Reading Sites
If you look to do more than play games or watch videos, consider checking out a nice online library like Google Books or the Amazon Kindle library. With literally millions of books to read, it's almost impossible for a reader to get bored with access to the internet. Browse through your favorite genres and discover new authors, or leave a review about a book you recently read. The internet is a web of words, so any reader should find it a comfy home during spells of boredom.
There's No Need to be Bored
In closing, there's really no excuse to be bored in the first place. Humans are usually good at entertaining ourselves, but that doesn't always work. Bring a trusty device and internet connectivity the next time you anticipate being bored and try some of the tips above. You'll be thanking yourself you did.
