2017 Streaming Results Are In
2017 was a great year for the music industry and streaming.

A recent report has confirmed that the number of people subscribing to a streaming service, such as Apple Music and Spotify, has reached 176 million worldwide. The number, which is up from 112million in 2016, has helped record labels chalk up a third consecutive growth following 15 years of decline.
Ed Sheeran topped 2017 best-selling album charts, selling 6.1million copies worldwide. The number is more than twice as many as 2016’s biggest seller – Beyonce’s Lemonade. Meanwhile, Bruno Mar’s 90s throwback album 24K magic made the top 10 for a second year in a row, with sales of 1million.
Stu Bergen of Warner Music, said: "We fought hard to get here but we are not getting complacent".
IFPI, which represents the music industry, said that one of the biggest obstacles is getting fair compensation from websites like Facebook and YouTube, which claims that they are not liable for any videos uploaded by their users.
Frances Moore, the organistion's chief executive, said: "There is a structural fault in the system. There's a mismatch between what platforms are making from [music] and what they're returning."
