146 New CCTV Cameras for North East Lincolnshire

A £1million project will see the installation of 148 new CCTV cameras in North East Lincolnshire.

146 new CCTV cameras are set to be installed in North East Lincolnshire in time for Christmas as part of a £1million scheme that aims to monitor the worst areas for crime and anti-social hotspots in the region. The scheme will also see the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras to catch and fine drivers who are violating traffic rules. 

 

Of the 146 CCTV cameras, 16 will be installed in the centre of Grimsby. The cameras are hoped to capture incidents such as the criminal damage caused to the front door of Grimsby Crown Court. 

 

The new CCTV network will be linked to North East Lincolnshire Council's CCTV hub, which can direct images to Humberside Police commanders to alert them of anyone causing any trouble in the area. Meanwhile, additional CCTV cameras will be installed on Boulevard Avenue on Grimsby's West Marsh while another four will be installed on The Willows estate and Immingham. 

 

Councillor Ron Shepherd portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities said: "The new system will provide easier access for police to monitor situations from their station which will help cut down response times."

 

There are also plans to launch a tannoy system in the town centre that can be used to alert individuals that they are being monitored. It will also be used for wider community safety messages if needed.
