1000 CCTV Cameras in Swindon
CCTV cameras owned by local authority in Swindon has increased by 21% since 2019, freedom of information requests have found.

Recent statistics have confirmed that the number of cameras currently monitoring Swindon has increased by 21per cent in the last three years. From 819 in 2019, the local authority now manages 990 cameras.
The study also showed that 69per cent of local councils across the United Kingdom has increased their CCTV presence during the same period. To date, there are 108,533 public cameras in the United Kingdom, an increase of 14per cent since 2019. This number does not include privately owned equipment, including those operated by members of the public or businesses.
The top 10 UK cities/towns with the biggest public CCTV increases include North East Derbyshire, Middlesborough, Newport, West Lindsey, Huntingdonshire, Hounslow, Lewes, and Wokingham.
The biggest numerical increase was found in Liverpool where 741 more cameras were added. However, the biggest percentage rise in CCTV was in Gwynedd in northwest Wales. The local authority now operates 468 cameras, an increase of 363per cent from 2019.
