Can Smart Home Automation Save You Money In The Long Run?
Our homes can cost us thousands every year.
15:43 18 April 2018
From general rent or mortgage costs, to monthly bills and other outgoing payments, we often find ourselves pouring more of our wages into our chosen living space than anything else. When times get tough, you could turn to a payday loan lender in a financial emergency, but what about in the long-term? Automation in the home is quickly becoming commonplace, and we’re taking a look into just how smart home automation could actually save you money in the long run.
Efficient Heating
Whether you just have heating, or you’re one of the lucky ones who has air conditioning at the press of a button too, keeping up with the costs can sometimes seem like a losing battle. Our heating and cooling systems are often some of the highest costs we’ll incur on a monthly basis and we’ll often find ourselves limiting the amount we use to save money. This is where automation comes in. With an automated system, you have the potential to only heat the rooms you’re using without fiddling with a radiator and you can rest assured knowing that once you’ve left the house, your heating or air conditioning will switch itself off rather than sit there using up your hard-earned cash.
Automate Your Lighting
Lighting is another cost that most will try and cut down on by switching off all the lights. While it’s simple enough to flip a switch, automated lighting makes it much easier to ensure that all of your lights are off when they need to be, and on when you need them. You could opt for scheduled lights that will only come on a certain time of day – which is perfect for business use - or you could opt for installing sensors so that the lights will only come on when someone is in the room. Controlling your lighting could save you a lot of money over the course of a year.
Control Your Electronics
We’ve all heard the lectures – make sure you turn off your appliances when you’re not using them to save electricity and money. However, remembering to switch off the toaster when you’re in a rush in the morning, or shutting off the TV rather than just putting it on standby is something we’re all guilty of. With automated control of electrics using sensors or timers, you’ll never leave appliances running unnecessarily again!
Water Control
By opting for devices like smart shower heads or sensor-controlled taps you could dramatically reduce the amount of water that you use on a daily basis. While this will of course save you money in the long run, it’s also friendlier to the environment overall. You could even opt for automated garden appliances, so you aren’t watering your plants when it’s not necessary. With weather sensing controls or devices designed to track your plants’ progress, you can more efficiently decide when they need a drop of water.
Save On Insurance
While this is still an up and coming perk, by automating your home, you could potentially save on your insurance costs. As we all know, insurance payments can be hefty and any way to cut them down is greatly appreciated – an automated home is exactly that. Insurance companies are always looking for ways to prevent claims, and automation can do exactly that. With electricity and water control, you can prevent fires, water damage and more, and with other automated systems that detect the likes of smoke, carbon monoxide or even unwanted ‘guests’, you can prevent damage to your own health, or theft of your property.
Automation is quickly becoming something that everyone is looking to have, and rightly so. Not only does automation promote ease around the home, it can also save money, time and is proving to be friendlier to the environment we live in. Why not give home automation a try?
