If you are looking to spend some quality time with the kids, try one of the many outdoor games suitable for families. These games are great for everyone from toddlers to grandparents even though some of them have age restrictions. Some require some investment or visiting a venue, while some of them only require that you have enough space to play. From classics to modern games, here are some fun outdoor games you can play as a family.
Family Basketball
Shooting hoops has been a great way to spend time with the family for decades whether you visit a local park or have a hoop at home. You can play with three to five players, and it is a good idea to create balanced teams so that they are equally matched. You can also play one-on-one where two players battle it out with the winner being the first player to reach an agreed-upon score.
Hide and Seek
Another classic game that has been around for decades is hide and seek. It is important to establish boundaries when playing with small kids and have a signal that says the game is over to keep everyone safe. It is also a good idea to pair kids with adults. There are many variations of hide and seek, a popular one being sardines. In this variation, the person who is found has to join in searching for the others until everyone is found. There are also variations played in the dark, but you need to ensure the area is safe first if you will play these variations.
Airsoft
Airsoft is an excellent option for families with teens because many airsoft ranges and venues only allow kids over a certain age, typically 10, to play. Airsoft is a tactical shooting game where the aim is to shoot BBs at players from the opposing team to eliminate them.
Players can choose different weapons, clothing and equipment to have as much tactical advantage as possible. Players can shop for the equipment, clothing and weapons they need at online airsoft shops. They can also visit an airsoft range, such as the one provided by Socom Tactical, to try out their weapons and be familiar with them before playing a game.
Once ready, the teams get to the venue or arena and play one or several rounds depending on the airsoft game variation or rules they have decided upon.
Jump Rope
Jump rope is easy to understand; two people hold the ends of a rope and swing it, and the other person or people jump to avoid the rope as it passes under them. It has lots of physical benefits as it is a great exercise, and it can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
You can check out the various variations you can play, but a great one to start with is seeing who can make the most jumps without messing up. This competitiveness can make the game even more fun as everyone does their best to have the most jumps.
Giant Jenga
This game takes the classic Jenga and scales it up so the family can enjoy it outdoors. The aim is to remove blocks from the tower and place them on top. Players have to remove and replace the blocks without causing the tower to collapse. It can be played by up to four people, and the person who causes the tower to collapse is responsible for setting up the next round. Since it is a slow and casual game, you can set the tower up close to where people sit and eat so they can take turns playing while they chat and enjoy some time together.
Cornhole
Cornhole is very popular in the United States but is becoming popular in the UK. It requires two boards that are placed about 10 metres apart (you can adjust the distance accordingly) and bean bags. The boards have a hole in them, and the aim is to get more bags through the holes than the other team.
If the bags land on the board and stays on it, the team scores a few points but fewer than if they got the bag through the holes. The teams do not get any points if the bags fall to the ground even if they landed on the boards first.
Spending time as a family is important, and one of the best ways of doing so is by playing games together. There are lots of games to choose from, and you should consider the ages and preferences of family members before picking the ones to play.
