Free Wifi in Chester City Centre
Council set to bring free public WiFi to Chester City centre.
21:56 02 January 2020
Cheshire West and Chester Council has committed £90,000 to bring free public WiFi in town centres across the borough. The first phase will cover the CH1 BID area while phase two will cover City Road, Brook Street, the station and the river.
Paul Hickson of CWaC has presented the scheme to Labour MP Chris Matheson, council chief executive Andrew Lewis, and Dean of Chester Tim Stratford. The group heard that workshops are currently being held to design the front-end experience for users with potentials for commercial opportunities and data gathering. They were also informed that customer service was important and that data gathering as to why people come to the city will be explored.
During the meeting, Harry Bolton said that questionnaire to log into the WiFi should be carefully designed so as not to discourage people from using the service. Cllr Adam Langan, on the other hand, said that the group should consider making the first page that pops up a what’s on/events page.
