Datchet 5G Mast Approval Error

Proposals for a 2nd Datchet 5G mistakenly approved by the local authority.

A 5G mast will be installed in Datchet despite local opposition after the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead failed to submit its paperwork in time. 

The proposals, which were already rejected the first time they were submitted, were brought forth by CK Hutchison Networks (UK). Under their application, they wanted to erect a 15m monopole with associated cabinets at the junction of Link Road and Horton Road. The scheme is part of the telecommunications company's rollout of 5G technology to provide communities with a reliable network connection. 

The installation will move forward because the local council failed to issue its decision in regard to the application within the 56-day period required by legislation. 

An incensed Cllr Larcombe said the 5G mast will be “obtrusive and overbearing,” adding: “[CK Hutchinson) have got the money and they think they can do what they want.

"They do not care about how the place looks. They have no interest at all in the permanent harm that it [the 5G mast] will have on the area.”

Meanwhile, a CK Hutchinson spokesperson replied: “5G rollout is vital for residents and businesses of Datchet. We want to offer the community a reliable network experience and this site will be critical to making that happen.
