Appeal for Sign Up for Faster Broadband
Alnwick Town Council appeals to residents and businesses to sign up for faster broadband in the town.
13:57 25 August 2020
Alnwick Town Council and the Chamber of Trade are encouraging all residents and businesses to take advantage of the Broadband Upgrade Fund offered by the Government to rural communities and areas that are often excluded in commercial broadband deployment. Eligible residents can get up to £1,500 funding while small and medium-sized businesses can have funding worth up to £3,500.
Tim Kirton, Alnwick Town Council projects and funding officer, said: "Being a rural area broadband speeds in parts of Alnwick can be much slower than elsewhere which was a very detrimental effect not only for residents who may have trouble for example downloading information, streaming TV programmes and films, but also for businesses who could do more business and operate much more easily and profitably with faster broadband speeds.
"New businesses could also be established far more easily with gigabit-capable broadband.
"This grant is a real opportunity for us to secure faster broadband speeds in Alnwick - but we can't win it without the active help of our residents and businesses.
"We need as many individual people and small and medium-sized businesses in Alnwick to sign-up an interest in this by the deadline date of September 30.
"It is very easy and absolutely free to register your interest; go to the Broadband Upgrade Fund and complete the online form and submit this.
"The town council is acting as a community co-ordinator so we will do the rest of the work for you.
