4 Reasons to Love The CW's Stargirl

Stargirl premiered on DC Universe and The CW just a mere months ago, and fans are already eager to see what happens in Season Two.

Created by Geoff Johns, who is also executive producer, this entertaining series follows Courtney Whitmer as she discovers what it's like to be a superhero that humanity relies on to protect their freedoms and livelihoods.

 

If you haven't yet watched Stargirl, here are four reasons to help you understand why fans are so eagerly awaiting Season Two.

 

1. It's a Show the Whole Family Can Enjoy

 

Although Stargirl’s superheros are high school misfits with teenage problems, there are characters the whole family can relate to and enjoy. If you have a young child who enjoys DC or Marvel superheroes, they will also enjoy the action Stargirl provides. If you have an adult in the home who likes the same, then Stargirl promises to keep them on the edge of their seats from week to week as well.

 

Stargirl is like Scooby Doo meeting Buffy the Vampire Slayer: lots of intrigue combined with lots of action. The storyline is easy to follow while not being predictable, and the characters are well fleshed out.

 

2. Luke Wilson has a Starring Role

 

It's hard to not like Luke Wilson. Even if he wasn't trying to be funny, he could probably make you smile. In Stargirl, Wilson plays the role of the easy-going stepfather to Courtney Whitmer, who is also Stargirl.

 

As a former member of the original Justice Society of America, Wilson's character provides background information for viewers, and his experience battling bad guys makes him a natural counselor to the new Justice Society. He also strives to be a superhero himself, though his efforts are often met with awkward quirkiness.

 

3. It Has Several Good Messages

 

Stargirl is a whole lot more than eye-grabbing special effects that will have you wondering just how the technical geniuses do that. It also provides several important messages. Here are some of the more obvious ones:

 

• It's ok to not be part of the in-crowd.
  
  
• Mistakes happen, but you keep moving forward.
  
  
• Girls are fighters, too.
  
  
• Stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves
  
  

Viewers are definitely going to pick up these messages and more when they watch Stargirl. Having good moral messages doesn't make it a bad show. It only strengthens its value to viewers.

 

4. The Mystery Is Intriguing

 

As a series, Stargirl doesn't throw all the answers out in the first season, but it gives just enough to keep fans coming back for more. Viewers are left with lingering questions and clues that must be answered in Season Two or beyond.

 

For example, one big unanswered question right now is: "Why did the cosmic staff choose Courtney Whitmer if Starman isn't her father?"

 

Another big questions surrounds Courtney's dad. How is such a loser the father of such an exceptional young woman? There's more to learn, and fans will return to find out these answers and more.

 

Stargirl is one of the best family series to debut on television in years. Sure, Flash is still going strong, but he's been around a while. This is new material with which most people aren't yet familiar. If you're one of those people, it's time to tune in and get up to speed.
